It may be winter in the northeast of the United States right now but many of us are dreaming about sunny beach days that lie ahead. With a few months of cold still ahead of us, there is no better time to start planning your summer trips. Being from the New England area, it’s hard to not be biased towards our scenic beach views and towns. People travel from all around the world to take in some of our scenery in the warm summer months. Here are a few of the towns in the northeast that are worth visiting when days are long and the sun is hot!

Nantucket, Massachusetts

It wouldn’t be a post about New England beaches without mentioning Nantucket. There is nothing like this beautiful town, so much so that it is one of the most visited destinations in the northeast. When you think ‘beach town’, Nantucket paints the perfect picture. More upscale than many west coasts and southern beach destinations; this location is still perfect for a relaxing weekend away. Though it takes some effort to reach the location, Nantucket is fully worth it. If you’re willing to splurge on a summer getaway, this is your place. So many hidden gems lie within the island that you could spend your whole trip wondering around discovering something new. Or if you’re like me, a simple day sitting by the ocean doing absolutely nothing suits just fine.

Newport, Rhode Island

With countless amounts of history scattered through the town, you don’t even have to step foot on a beach to have an enjoyable trip. With the Tennis Hall of Fame and Touro Synagogue (oldest in America), you’ll have plenty to learn about during your stay. If you are a beam bum, start out with a stroll along the rugged Cliff Walk, with a breathtaking view of the coast. Some of the whitest sand and beaches are in this area. Make sure you don’t miss out on your opportunity to partake in some of the best sailing in the country.

Hampton Beach, New Hampshire

There is nothing quite like a summer in Hampton Beach. Like the Hamptons of New York, this New Hampshire location is booming almost every day in the summertime. From concerts a Hampton Beach State Park to movies on the beach, everyone in your family is bound to have a great time on this vacation. With all the activities, travelers should plan ahead for some heavy traffic. But the miles of clean beaches have plenty of sunbathing spots to accommodate everyone! And what would a beach town be without a full street of ice cream, snow cones, fudge, and pizza!
